Am overjoyed and as happy as every other cricket loving Indian at India winning the T20 worldcup.
It was a nail biting finish and I whooped in joy as the tricolour was paraded proudly around the ground..but all the same it seemed too good to be true.
A creepy thought passed my mind - Is this all true or is it part of an elaborate scripted show put up for our benefit? It was like a bad thought or dream that nobody wants to think about but it keeps recurring. Maybe I am just going bonkers.
Voice in my head - heck, isn't it too much of a coincidence that the final would have to be between India & Pakistan?...Especially after the world cup debacle, cricket took the biggest beating ever in its Indian history. It was almost on the verge of dying a slow death, sponsors pulling out support, public support was lost.
Me - What the hell, it was a great game. Played in front of millions.
Voice in my head - Forgot the earlier match fixing tales?. After the world cup fiasco the very foundation of BCCI obviously got shaken. New competition in the form of ICL cropped up. They had to act fast and effectively. What could redeem the team, gain public support and be the magic formula to put cricket back into its high pedastal? BOOM "Fresh faces...a World cup victory...against arch rivals Pakistan"
BCCI: Sure, can be arranged..Shall thrown in a special appearance of SRK to add a touch of glamour too. Indians love the combo :)
Me - Push away such niggly-naggly thoughts...Push away such niggly-naggly thoughts...
Voice in my head - Forgot how Bob Woolmer's death was simply brushed under the carpet? For weeks it was cold blooded murder..strangulation marks were found etc and one day a simple headline saying - It was suicide afterall..ended the tale. Did Hansie Cronje's plane crash or was it made to crash? Simply put its a big nexus. For, cricket is multi-million dollar business, my dear.
Me - Hurrah! We won..we won the T20 world cup..that's all that matters.
Voice in my head - Bravo, rejoice the victory. After all its people like you who keep this game going to new heights. Politicians announce lakhs of rupees, Sahara doles out flats to each players, sponsors rush to sign contracts again, Ad men gloat over new deals to be struck. BCCI heaves a relief that everything is back on track.
Pray, why no such money power was seen when the Indian hockey team won the Asia Cup? They were plainly congratulated, given a few lame receptions and Mr. Gill announced Rs. 1000 per goal (or Rs.70) per team member for every goal scored!
Wow, Indian sports is indeed laudable.
Me - we won, we won ..(buhoo, bad thoughts go away..)
Voice in my head - WWE is equally entertaining you know..:)
Me - Go away!

I dont think a tournament of this extent can be fixed all thru. Why will the Aussies, the South Africans and the English agree ?
I think in the T20 format of the game, even the lesser teams can give the better teams a run for their money. The Aussies say, that is because the team has to keep the performance level up for a shorter period of time. Only when you have to endure good performance does it separate the Boys from the Men.
U R Right in your header, we are just the T20 World Champion and not the Cricket World champions.
Interesting theories thrown out by a dangerous mind! Let me dig for some more info.
The money and goodies being thrown out to the team now though is a wee bit like all those rich, paan-chewing , smelling-the-flowers-around-their-wrists middle aged seths in dance bars and ghars that they show in movies. Quite nauseating.
Vicky
Did you write this before today's events or after? If the answer is before, that's some serious premonition! gulp! Waiting for the can of worms to open up.
BCCI and sponsors giving away goodies is ok by me. Rich brats can afford it. The state and national governments pulling off such stunts cannot be accepted.
GO HOCKEY!
Vicky
PS: also left you a "detailed analysis/opinion" on your mall vs tam movie article.
It is the chicken or the egg question...
Should the hockey adminstrators and the coverage be made more appealing for pulling the crowds or get the people interested and the professionals will be there.
But this demigod status is given to the Cricket team by the people of the country and not by the Govt.
Se we are to be blamed for the poor plight fof the other sports.,
It is o.k for majority of the junta to celebrate in greater degree the cricket T20 victory. It is NOT o.k for the governments to show the same bias. They are there for a reason - to moderate and promote all sports.

@friend: Not just the people its also the game media plays and to the gallery.
We lost the 50 overs world cup to a level that i thought is the end of cricket in india. But look whats in store... another form of dumb mans game is invented and we are the champions. Next season oh sorry this one will last for atleast another 20 years if we loose both levels of the game, am sure ICC and BCCI will come up with T10 World cup. What a waste of resource.
Hehehheheh we are the champions...? Every cricketer is a god here but none of them perform when it matters most. They will make centuries and records against scotland, canada, bangladesh oh sorry bangladesh is a much stronger team now than ours so no bangladesh, oh my gosh we need more new weaker teams or how will indian gods make centuries and records?
And by the way where did Aussies go? I thought they won the cricket world cup this season... or was that not cricket?
Ark, the aussies are well and truly here, and in the news for all the wrong reasons too. have a look:

[P.S: Your blog does not seem to be taking comments.]
Am as much for India as you and its the disheartened fan in that was me speaking. India can surely win matches but the manner in which they got back and considering the prior state of affairs makes one re-think. And all this is not some air talk..there have been several allegations to this effect.
So what kind of matches I want to see India play? Like the rainwashed one against formidable teams such as Aussies. The match has to ring true to.
Sorry if it sounds pessimistic to you but yes I have lost faith in the Indian team and it will take more than a T20 worldcup to regain it.
Your head seems to be very logical.. I also felt so after our victory.. I am not much of a cricket fan, but I saw the kind of enthusiasm and josh in our players.. They came and had fun.. Never did they even think about the result.. And that mattered a lot.. Dhoni earned India the cup..
